Day by Day

21 05 2008

I take my photography one day at a time, and hope that each day I can do better, and learn more, and take better photos. I really make an effort to do something different every time I pick up my camera, and most times, I get lucky (some people will say this is not “luck” but that’s another topic), and I learn something new, to get a beautiful picture.

This evening, I shot my brother’s (evening/nighttime) baseball game (and one of my favorite babies, Jayleen) completely with available light (didn’t even touch the flash once, not even the pop up flash on the camera), and on either aperture priority or completely on manual.

This is such a big step for a lot of amateur/hobby-turned-professional photographers…

When I started, I thought the camera’s “auto” settings were so great, until I realized I wasn’t getting the “look” I wanted in my photos. So, slowly, after lots of reading, practicing, and more reading, I started using the manual settings more and more, and trusting that ‘feeling’ I was getting and much happier with the photos.

I really really like the pictures I took tonight, and shooting with available light is quickly becoming my favorite thing to do. I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Take risks… Take chances… Shoot for the moon, if you fail, you’ll still be among the stars.

p.s. the 50mm 1.8 lens is a thing of beauty 🙂
